West End Detour

Features of Highway 104

West End Detour

During construction of the western portion of the new twinned Highway 104, a traffic detour will be in place.  This detour is necessary in order that features of the new Highway 104 at Addington Forks road can be constructed.  The detour has been designed so that it will not interrupt traffic flow or risk the safety of current highway users and it is not expected to have any significant impact on local and through traffic.

Detour Route

Traffic will be re-directed from the current highway 104 to Trunk 4 near the old Hope MacDonald property.  Traffic will return to the existing highway just east of Addington Forks road.  The detour will be two lanes, with a traffic speed of 70-80 km/hour.  There will also be a short detour at Addington Forks Road along Addington Lane to a temporary intersection with the existing highway, just east of the current intersection.

The map below illustrates the detour pathway in more detail:

You can also download a factsheet that provides you with a printable summary of the detour details.

Detour Schedule

The detour is expected to be fully in place in the summer of 2012.  You can continue to check the home page of www.104antigonish.ca for schedule updates about the detour.

The detour will be in operation throughout Phase 1 of Highway 104 construction, the western half of the highway.  The estimated completion for Phase 1 is the Fall of 2012.
